Creag Mhor and Beinn Sheasgarnich
Creag Mhor and Beinn Sheasgarnich make for a wonderful outing in the beautiful Glen Lochay. Though the glen has numerous hydro tracks there has been a lot tree planting making great habitats for birds and wild flowers. Making this a bike & hike event saves our legs from the hard tracks on the approach. It also lets us take a different route down to avoid the worst of the peat hags on the slopes of Beinn Sheasgarnich.
This is a Bike & Hike event so you will need to bring a mountain bike and a helmet with you.
We begin with an easy cycle along the bottom of Glen Lochay from Kenknock on road and vehicle tracks. After 6km at a fork in the road we will leave the bikes and climb on a good track to the upper hydro track. A short walk along this and we will begin to climb up steeper grass and craggy ground onto Sron nan Eun. Once up here there is a path along a lovely ridge to the summit of Creag Mhor.
Our route follows the classic walk between the summits heading north to avoid the crags before descending into the beallach. It’s a steep climb back up towards Beinn Sheasgarnich, but the ground eases after Sron Tairbh. A broad ridge leads to the summit and its far reaching views across Loch Lyon if we are lucky!
The return to the bikes takes us back along towards the south top cutting off before the summit. We can then head more or less south avoiding crags and going across country to reach the upper hydro track. A short walk back down to the bikes and we will be cycling back to the car park.
